Connect, Community and Compassion (3C)

This a model derived out of experiences and practice with different organizations. Personal and collective practice of connection leads to building a community space with the vision of the organization leading to more cohesive work environment. Work place becomes a safe space to share oneself and grow in the process.

Over a period of 6 to 12 months practices are shared and done collectively to achieve the goals set as per the need of the individuals and organization.

Connect: Every human deals with a pertinent question of “who am I” at many junctures of life. Through “connecting” practices we try to move away from regular networking, and look at both inner and outer aspects. The more we connect with ourselves the more genuine is the external connect. We aim at understanding connect as core human need to function well and thereby try and understand the purpose of one’s living and its interconnection with every other being.

Community: A human body has a community within that functions cohesively to make sure the body survives. Similarly, for an organization community culture will bring in better results as team members are not intimidated by competition of peers but are motivated to collaborate and grow.

Compassion: One may ask can “compassion” be trained? I can surely say there is a chance for it to rise within the being. We create opportunities to practice awareness, empathy, kindness, altruism, positivity and other such values that allow compassion/loving kindness to flow.

Many such experiments have been conducted with individuals, teams and organizations that have shown smaller shifts leading to transformation.

“Sheetal’s entry in my life and in Samavedana came as a boon. We were in the phase of opening new horizons for Samavedana, explore our own strengths (and weaknesses), adopt and adapt to changing social, political and healthcare surroundings and look forward to the whole new sky of opportunities.

The challenge was two-fold:  imbibing the values and culture of the organization deep within and preparing the team to understand the change, face the challenges and not only survive through, but swim to the banks of success . Sheetal came in as a volunteer and accepted this challenge. Week by week, she introduced different concepts to them, through interesting sessions like SWOT analysis, Tree of Life, Random Seva session etc. Some times one on one and sometimes through circles of sharing. It was a perfect starter of the days of growth to come and preparing the team mentally to accept it and adapt to it. Most of the team mates opened up during these sessions and created a bond on a different level, within the team and that with the organization.

Acquiring new skills is not difficult, but developing such attitude is. Sheetal helped me and my team develop this attitude.

Personally to me, Sheetal was a mentor, a friend to whom I could share anything. She was available at any hour of the day even for my paltry dilemmas. Absolutely pure at heart Sheetal is a blend of warmth and brains, which created perfect ‘Samavedana’ between us.

Thank you Sheetal, for being with us, ALWAYS!.”

Sheetal was responsible for starting off a new component of Youth4Jobs called “Collage Connect”. The responsibility involved partnering with collages and universities to identify and asses the employability gaps of students with disabilities. This was followed by recruiting trainers and developing content or accessing suitable content. Besides forging educational partnerships, she managed to consolidate our presence in the educational institutes by displaying a seriousness of purpose and giving the message that Youth4Jobs was a long term player to support their needs. She also led the team to build rapport with the youth with disabilities, building confidence in them that the employability trainings would support their job prospects. These strong building blocks have helped Youth4Jobs today to strengthen and expand the program, and bring in corporate linkages for employment for youth with disabilities.

Her strengths are recruiting and building team capacities and glueing external partnerships. She has good presentation skills and is a quick learner. Besides, she has a good value system and a strong volunteering spirit.

Sheetal will be an asset to any organization.

We are 15 year old technology consulting company having done dozens of projects for government, enterprises and institutes. In end of 2012 we (founders and few  team members) sat down to restructure the business model and its operations. We shifted from technology service provider to providing of solutions based on research and strategy. This approach required a major shift in thinking for current team members and team members who would be joining.
Fortunately few months down in 2013 I connected with Soham and shared this situation. The contribution that came to Cybersurf in those few months is invaluable. Research and design & foundation lies in listening with empathy. The presentations, the exercises, the conversation over lunch, setting high standards by hands on learning and delivering did a major breakthrough in that area. Today the entire team remembers them fondly with and without knowing how deeply the process impacted the individuals and overall culture.
